My name is Jacquelyn, but everyone calls me Jackie. I am a first-generation American from a Jamaican family. Born here in Maryland, I live with my parents and my two brothers. I joined the TPC family back in 2014!

I am a member of our marvelous media team and provide the visual lyrics to coincide with our glorious praise team. I also run our sensational Instagram account. I have two degrees in Business and Healthcare Management.

In 2013, I was diagnosed with primary progressive multiple sclerosis, which turned my world upside-down. It rocked my faith as I was filled with questions like, "Why me?" But with much talk and prayer with God, He provided me with a list of things that I was destined for. I'm self-taught in the financial market and nutrition wellness. In this ever-changing journey, as long as I have my Savior—my ultimate source of life—I am truly blessed! For my health, I've been a vegan for several years now. In a Jamaican house, that's hard! I prioritize my life with routines and movement, alongside my devoted and warmhearted family and friends who provide care and love.

I have a non-profit organization that's now off the ground with big ideas for 2026! I love learning new and different things. I've read over 400 books, and my new goal is to tackle the New York Times' 100 bestsellers!

Turning Point means the world to me. I feel connected with everyone, even if I'm not in the building. Pastor Daniel and Lady Bangura are astonishing teachers of faith, compassion, and joy! One of my favorite Bible verses is 1 Corinthians 16:13: "Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, be courageous, be strong."

If I were to give a message, it would be to focus on the 'present day' at hand, for tomorrow is a new day.

Insight

Jacquelyn's story is one of strong faith and relying on God during tough times. Even with her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, she trusts in God's strength and grace. Her life at Turning Point Church and her new non-profit show how she finds purpose and victory through God, much like Deuteronomy 20:4 teaches that true victory is a gift from God. She admits her weaknesses and lets Christ's power help her, showing that relying on God brings victory. Her journey reminds us to trust God's plans and focus on the present, knowing that our battles are His and He gives us the strength to overcome.

Pastor Daniel & Lady Notoya Bangura
Turning Point Church

Read More on TP Chronicles

Parents stand before their community, promising to raise their child in God's ways. The room fills with hope and dreams for what this child might become.

These moments connect us to something old and lasting. They remind us that families have been making these same commitments for generations, passing faith like a family treasure. But they also prompt an important question: When was the last time you made a promise so meaningful that it changed how you live every day?

The hard truth is that a promise is only as strong as what it's built on. For those who follow Christ, that foundation must be more than just good intentions or traditions.

Building a Strong Foundation
We live in a time where there's information everywhere. But often, it's just surface-level. So, here's the big question: Do we need to know God's Word to live our faith truly? The answer is a resounding yes!

Think about it. How can we guide the next generation if we don't know the path ourselves? How can we promise to follow God's principles if we don't actually know them? God's Word is like our map and guide when life gets tough.

Imagine a football team where the quarterback hasn't learned the plays. Even with talent and passion, they'll struggle to lead effectively because they don't know the strategy. Our spiritual lives work in the same way. We need to know God's Word to handle life's challenges wisely.

But this isn't about following rules just for the sake of it. It's about getting to know God so well that His Word becomes part of our daily lives. When we're familiar with the Bible, change comes naturally because of our closeness to God.

Being Part of a Community
Ephesians 1:11 tells us something amazing: God has a special plan for each of us. But we often miss that this plan isn't meant to be lived out alone. We're part of something much bigger.

First Corinthians 12:12-27 describes the Church as the Body of Christ. Just like our bodies work best when every part does its job, the Church works best when everyone is involved. We're stronger and more effective when we work together rather than alone.

When parents dedicate their child to God, they're not just making a personal promise. They're inviting the whole community to help raise the child spiritually. Similarly, when we choose to follow Christ, we're joining a movement that's powered by the Holy Spirit.

So, what part of the body are you? Are you eyes that see what's missed, hands that serve, a voice that speaks truth with love, or feet that reach out to those in need? Knowing your unique role strengthens your purpose and our collective impact.

Being Salt, Light, and Spiritual Defenders
Jesus called His followers "salt and light" in Matthew 5:13-16. These words mean doing something. Salt keeps things fresh and healthy. Light reveals the truth and helps us find our way.

When filled with the Holy Spirit, the Church acts as a defense against the chaos and lies in the world. According to 2 Thessalonians 2:6-7, the Holy Spirit working through believers is the force holding back complete chaos.

This is both a big responsibility and an incredible privilege. Like a floodgate holding back floodwaters, each prayer and act of faith helps keep the darkness at bay. Through our faithfulness—not perfect, but consistent—we stand as barriers against negative spiritual forces.

Sharing the Gospel
Our world is full of half-truths and confusion. We are called to share the unchanging truth of Jesus. Every honest conversation and act of kindness pushes back against the darkness.

Intercessory Prayer: Ephesians 6:18-20 reminds us that prayer is our strong weapon in spiritual battles. Whether praying for people or communities, our prayers have real power.

Staying Steady in the Storm
Facing life's struggles requires more than good intentions; it takes wisdom from God's Word and strength from His Spirit. Mark 13:33 reminds us to be ready and watchful.

Though dark forces exist, they're held back by the Holy Spirit working through believers like you and me.

Let's continue our journey together. Just like a baby dedication starts a lifelong journey, our faith needs daily continuous action guided by the Spirit. You're part of something much larger—a body that goes beyond time, place, and culture.

Your Faithfulness Matters
Your choices make a lasting impact. Your commitment to knowing God's Word, being active in community, and walking with the Spirit contributes to something greater than we can fully imagine.

The promises you've made—whether out loud or in your heart—are incredibly significant.

How will you honor them today?

Where you go I will go, and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me" ' (Ruth 1:16-17).

Take a moment to pause and remember the special people we've lost. Their passing makes us reflect on how brief life can be. Yet, even in these challenging times, we find solace in God's promises, celebrating the meaningful lives they lived with faith.

Consider Ruth from the Bible. Her story isn't too different from our own experiences, as she faced challenges with strength and loyalty.

Ruth makes a resolute commitment to stay with Naomi, who has been left a widow and is returning to her homeland in a state of bitterness and emptiness (Naomi even changes her name to Mara, meaning "bitter", in Ruth 1:20-21). This is a clear example of choosing to support another person when life has "thrown curveballs."

Like Ruth, we face moments that test us. But remember, God always shows up during times of loss and adversity, just as He did for Ruth, bringing new opportunities and blessings when things seemed impossible.

The Bible offers comforting words: "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted" (Matthew 5:4). When life feels overwhelming, know that God is present to offer comfort. "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18).

As we grieve and remember our departed loved ones, let's be gentle with ourselves and others. Proverbs 15 reminds us that kind words can heal. Ruth's story also emphasizes the importance of sticking together. These connections strengthen our community, helping each other through our shared faith and experiences.

In honoring Sister Lilian's mom and Pastor White, two of our recent losses, we carry their legacy forward. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful servants" (Psalm 116:15). Their spirit and love live on through our actions, creating pathways to deeper connections among us.

Even when life throws us curveballs, focusing on spiritual growth and supporting each other helps us find strength and purpose. Together, we journey on this pathway of deep connection, lifted by a God who consistently appears, offering love and strength exactly when we need it.

Thanks for being part of this journey with us.

The Journey of Soul Refinement

The Journey of Soul Refinement

It's early 2026, and life already feels heavy! From financial strain to health issues and family tension, it seems we're at the crossroads of a breaking point. Whether you're shocked by high grocery prices or searching for work, we're all feeling the "2026 Squeeze." Who do we turn to for guidance when everyone around us is complaining?

These struggles mirror ancient Israel's crises. In Isaiah 31:1-3, the prophet warns against relying on "horses" and alliances instead of God. Today, our "Egypt" might be political affiliation or the latest social media trend. We face the same choice: depend on a shifting world or seek God's Word as our steady guide.

In our hyper-connected yet isolated world, we can communicate globally yet often feel alone. Constant news makes us feel like the sky is falling. Seeking God is about intentional living, not simply reacting to anxiety. Psalm 14 describes the "fool" as one who lives as if God doesn't exist, caught up in digital distractions.

Consider Daniel. In Daniel 1:8, he "resolved in his heart" not to defile himself with the King's rich food. It wasn't about not eating "Babylonian Junk Food"; it was a spiritual stand. Daniel chose simple meals because he knew his strength came from God, not the King's table. Today, our "royal food" is the endless stream of distractions—like scrolling through TikTok or arguing about politics—that leave your soul malnourished and anxious. Soul refinement might begin by shutting down those social media outlets that are not profitable to our souls and making room for a real conversation with God, bringing peace and quiet.

There's no shortcut to peace. Proverbs 14:12 warns: "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death." Shortcuts like extra work hours or nonstop news can deepen worry. No overtime can buy the "peace that passes understanding."

Three Key Practices for Soul Refinement:

1. Patience and Trust:
   - Daniel waited patiently for deliverance. In a world where we get frustrated when a page takes three seconds to load, we must learn to trust God's timing.

2. Wise Discipline:
   - Treat your soul like a garden. Feed it the "weeds" of gossip, and peace won't grow. Choose prayer over distraction to plant hope.

3. Encouraging Community:
   - Like Daniel had friends, we need a community to share life's burdens. We weren't meant to be solo acts; we need to support one another.

Soul refinement combines physical discipline with spiritual habits. As you continue this week, remember: your body is a temple, not a dumping ground for stress, and your mind is a garden, not a parking lot for news outlets. Don't follow what "seems right" in a confused world. Instead, hold onto the Lord, who provides the wisdom to navigate every situation in our lives.

The journey of soul refinement invites us to embrace God's wisdom in everyday life. Through patience, wisdom, and community, we grow, guided by a God who walks with us, offering constant strength and love.

Society tells us to always want more, achieve more, and control more. But when we choose to step back through fasting, we're challenging those messages about what success and security really mean.

When we fast, especially by giving up foods we enjoy, we're not just changing our diet. We're making it clear that our true sustenance comes from God. We're recognizing a truth our culture tends to ignore: we're not the ones keeping everything together.

Many of us go through our days believing we're in control of our success. We work hard, plan, and solve problems. We build careers and manage our homes. But sometimes, we start to believe it all depends on us.

This belief is not only tiring; it's also spiritually risky. Thinking we're in control can stop us from looking to God for help. We might forget how much we depend on the One who gives us life, opportunities, and strength.

Fasting is like pressing a "pause button" on this mindset. It creates space to realize that our achievements, strength, and life itself are gifts from God, not things we made happen on our own. Every time we choose a plant-based meal during a fast, it's a reminder of this truth.

The apostle Paul talks about walking in humility and gentleness in Ephesians 4:1-2. These qualities aren't celebrated much in today's competitive world. Humility can sound like weakness, and gentleness might seem ineffective.

But Paul's words offer a new idea of strength—one that's not about control but about recognizing our need for God and others. Fasting is a way to practice this humility. It's about letting go of the need to control everything.

Today, we're not just giving up meat. We're letting go of the tiring belief that everything relies on us.

Looking for a job or dealing with job uncertainty can bring out our deepest worries. It can make us feel anxious and desperate. But what if this time is actually a chance to see God provide in real ways? What if closed doors are to keep us from paths that aren't right for us?

Today, we pray for those seeking employment or career clarity. We ask God to open doors and provide for those facing financial difficulties. This is about active faith—working hard but ultimately trusting in God's provision, not just our efforts.

Career resources can help in job searches, but our ultimate hope is in God who knows our needs even before we ask.

Broken relationships can really hurt us. Whether it's a family conflict or a struggling friendship or marriage, relational pain can take over our thoughts.

Interestingly, fasting can soften our hearts. When we're physically vulnerable, our defenses lower. We see our own faults and become more willing to forgive others.

Today, we pray for healing in our strained family ties and friendships. We ask for God's "peace that passes understanding" to mend what's broken. This peace allows us to handle tough relationships with wisdom and hope. It assures us that God can change hearts and restore trust.

Seeking biblical advice can offer practical steps in tough relationships. But the best advice needs the Holy Spirit's work to truly transform hearts, including our own.

Let's be real: starting a fast is tough. The hunger and low energy are real. The bigger challenge, though, is avoiding distractions. It's tempting to fill the empty space left by fasting with other activities rather than God's presence.

We need God's strength to stick to our spiritual goals. Discipline comes from a deep desire to know God better, finding nourishment in His Word rather than in physical food.

This is where fasting becomes transformative. When we push through and find that we can live—and even thrive—without what we thought we needed, we learn about God's sufficiency. We discover that He is truly enough.

Spiritual practices work best with practical routines. Stay hydrated during your fast. Take time to pause and refocus on scripture throughout the day. These aren't rigid rules but habits that make space for God to work within us.

Whether you feel energized or tired, remember that spiritual growth often happens best in community. We're not meant to face these challenges alone. There's strength in knowing others are on the same journey, experiencing the same struggles and God's faithfulness.

Keep going. The discipline you practice today shapes you—deeper trust, stronger faith, and a more surrendered heart. God is working in ways you might not see yet, but His provision is real, His presence steady, and His plans good.

The strength to let go isn't weakness. It's the path to true freedom.

Awareness Fast Instructions

A Reflection on Election and Calling

In a world that's a never-ending rat race of "likes" and job titles, our latest Bible study brought us back to a foundational truth: You were chosen long before your first social media profile (or your first mistake) ever existed. Here are the big takeaways from last week's Bible study lesson:

1. Chosen or Driven

We looked at Ephesians 1:4-6 and realized our worth isn't a performance review. Society wants us to earn our spot, but God gave us our spot before the world even began.

2. An Identity That Doesn't Break

Life gets messy, but Jeremiah 1:5 reminds us our purpose is anchored in eternal values. When things go sideways, we aren't defined by the chaos; we're defined by Christ.

3. The Ultimate Security Blanket

We talked about the "seal" of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13-14). Once you're His, you're His. Period. No matter where you came from or what you used to believe, grace is like a bridge awaiting to bring you over to God. This is echoed in 2 Peter 3:9, which tells us, "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." He is patiently waiting for all His elect to be saved! This is no reason to think all will be saved or God's grace will forever wait for the unrepentant sinner. We're living in the Last Days. As 2 Thessalonians 2:7 implies the Holy Spirit in us—and by extension, the church—is actually holding back the lawless one who is the antichrist. Talk about a time to make our calling and election sure!

4. Walking the Talk

Ephesians 2:10 says God has pre-planned "good works" for us. It's not about adding more to your to-do list; it's about looking for the roles God already set up for you. Maybe it's a kind word to a barista or finally volunteering for that cause on your heart.

Memory Verse for the Week

"For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight." — Ephesians 1:4

The Bottom Line:

Your security isn't in cultural validation; it's in Divine Election. You aren't just a face in the crowd—you're chosen, sealed, and sent.

Blessings,

Pastor Daniel Bangura

Return to Notes

This week, our focus shifted to "Body Nourishment," highlighting the importance of valuing and caring for our bodies, which are divine gifts from God.

In a nearby community, Sarah, a dedicated church member, began her day enveloped in the serenity of morning light. Seeking comfort and guidance, she turned to her Bible, reading from Psalm 6 and Proverbs 6. Facing health challenges, Sarah yearned for the healing touch of God, whom she regarded as the Great Healer. By turning her health concerns into prayers, she invited God into every aspect of her life.

Both at Sarah's church and ours, the emphasis was on adopting healthier eating habits by reducing consumption of meats, poultry, eggs, and seafood. This change wasn't solely about diet; it was an acknowledgment that caring for our bodies can draw us nearer to God. Sarah often pondered 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, reflecting on how treating her body as a sacred temple could honor God.

With each wave of hunger, Sarah saw an opportunity—a "holy hunger," as her pastor described it—for a deeper connection with God. These moments became chances to redirect physical cravings toward spiritual nourishment.

Daily, Sarah found encouragement in the Our Daily Bread devotional, where simple yet profound stories resonated with her journey for God's guidance and strength.

Sarah's story is part of a larger movement, embraced by many churches including ours:

- Communities united in prayer for healing, not just for themselves but for all facing health challenges, lifting up individual names in their prayers.
- They sought God's protection over their families, praying for safety and health.
- They pursued spiritual breakthroughs, asking for the strength to stay focused and meet life's challenges with grace.

As the days went by, Sarah and many others encountered true transformation. By choosing healthier paths, they felt God's peace fill their lives and discovered a renewed purpose guiding them.

Through Sarah's journey, we learn that by treating our bodies as temples and seeking God through prayer, faith, and community support, we open ourselves to profound change—not only physically but spiritually as well. In doing so, we draw closer to the Great Physician, who consistently supports, heals, and guides us. Let's honor God by caring for the bodies—the temples—He has entrusted to us.

Awareness Fast Instructions

An Upward Reset

As we stand at the threshold of a new year, there's profound value in pausing to recalibrate our spiritual compass. The beginning of 2026 invites us to consider a compelling question: Are we truly walking in alignment with the divine purpose set before us? If not, are we ready for an upward reset?

Walking Worthy of Our Calling

The concept of "walking worthy of the upward calling" is more than religious jargon—it's an invitation to live intentionally, embracing the highest version of ourselves that God envisions. This calling is about actively stepping into the fullness of who we were created to be.

The Spiritual Discipline of Fasting

In our culture of constant consumption, fasting offers a countercultural practice that makes space for God. It’s not about showcasing willpower; it’s about drawing closer to God by letting go of comforts that often occupy the space He longs to fill. As we set aside food, entertainment, or other pleasures, we create a holy hunger in our souls.

Fasting combined with prayer enhances our faith and reliance on God. As Jesus taught in Mark 9:29, some breakthroughs require this powerful combination. Together, they foster deeper spiritual experiences and true communion with God.

Making Your Calling Sure

Our January theme, "Making Your Calling and Election Sure," underscores God's specific purpose for each of our lives, both general and unique. In the noise of daily life, this calling can become unclear. An "upward reset" allows us to refocus and affirm our divine mission, ensuring we start the year with a strong foundation aligned with God’s will.

The Role of Humility

Ephesians 4:1-2 teaches that walking worthy involves humility and kindness. But have you ever paused to consider the unusual cast of characters God chose for the greatest birth announcement in human history?

Among the gold, frankincense, and myrrh, there's a group that doesn't quite fit our expectations of grandeur: shepherds. Not priests. Not scholars. Not nobility. Shepherds—the ancient world's equivalent of society's overlooked and undervalued.

The Lowly Shepherds

In the cultural context of first-century Palestine, shepherds occupied one of the lowest rungs on the social ladder. They were considered uneducated, ceremonially unclean due to constant contact with animals, and generally untrustworthy. Their testimony wasn't even admissible in court. They lived on the margins, spending nights in fields rather than homes, constantly moving with their flocks, disconnected from the religious and social centers of their day.

Yet when the heavens opened and angels proclaimed the birth of the Messiah, it was to these shepherds that God first revealed this earth-shattering news.

Why? The answer reveals something profound about the heart of God and the nature of His Kingdom.

God's Upside-Down Kingdom

Scripture consistently shows us that God's value system operates in stark contrast to worldly hierarchies. James 4:10 reminds us, "Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up." Throughout biblical history, God has demonstrated a pattern of choosing the unlikely, the overlooked, and the humble to accomplish His purposes.

The shepherds perfectly embodied this principle. Their very presence at the manger scene was a living sermon about humility—a virtue that would define Jesus' entire earthly ministry. As Philippians 2:7-8 tells us, Christ Himself "made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!"

The shepherds weren't chosen despite their low status; they were chosen because of it. Their humility made them the perfect recipients of heaven's greatest announcement.

Shepherds and Sacrifice

But there's another layer to this divine choice that's even more significant. These weren't just any shepherds watching any flocks. Historical evidence suggests these were likely temple shepherds, responsible for raising lambs destined for sacrifice in Jerusalem's temple, just a few miles away from Bethlehem's fields.

Imagine the theological poetry of this moment: shepherds who spent their lives caring for sacrificial lambs were the first to meet the Lamb of God who would take away the sin of the world.

These men understood sacrifice in ways others couldn't. They knew the purpose of the lambs they tended. They understood that these animals would be examined for blemishes, selected for their perfection, and ultimately offered to atone for sin. When they looked at the baby Jesus, wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger, they were seeing something that connected deeply with their daily reality.

John 1:29 would later declare what these shepherds might have intuited that holy night: "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!" The shepherds weren't just witnesses to a birth; they were witnesses to the arrival of the ultimate sacrifice.

Signs of His Coming

As Pastor Frederick Conteh demonstrated in our previous Bible Study, the birth of Jesus was accompanied by several remarkable signs that confirmed His identity and mission:

1. THE VIRGIN BIRTH: The Virgin Birth fulfilled the ancient prophecy of Isaiah 7:14: "The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel." This supernatural conception announced that something unprecedented was breaking into human history—God Himself entering our world in the humblest way imaginable.

2. THE SWADDLING CLOTHES: The Swaddling Clothes mentioned in Luke 2:11-12 weren't just practical baby garments. They symbolized Jesus' identification with humanity in its most vulnerable state. The King of Kings, wrapped in simple cloth strips, chose to enter the world not in royal robes but in the attire of the poor. This was the Creator of the universe making Himself accessible to the lowliest of His creation.

3. THE STAR IN THE EAST: The Star in the East guided wise men from distant lands, as recorded in Matthew 2:2, 9-10. This celestial sign announced that Jesus came not just for Israel but for all nations. The light that appeared in the sky that night was a preview of Jesus' role as "the light of the world"—a beacon for all who would seek Him.

4. THE OPPOSITION: The Opposition was prophesied even in Jesus' infancy. When Mary and Joseph presented Jesus at the temple, Simeon declared in Luke 2:34 that this child was "destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against." From His birth, Jesus would challenge the status quo and face resistance from those who preferred darkness to light.

Credits: Pastor Frederick Conteh

The Shepherds' Response

What makes the shepherds even more remarkable isn't just that they received the message, but how they responded to it. Luke 2:15-20 tells us they said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about."

They didn't debate. They didn't delay. They didn't question whether they were worthy enough to seek out the newborn King. They went immediately, found Mary, Joseph, and the baby, and then became the first evangelists of the gospel, spreading the word about what they had seen and heard.

Their faith was simple but profound. Their obedience was immediate and complete. They returned to their flocks "glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen."

What This Means for Us

The story of the shepherds isn't just a charming detail in the Christmas narrative. It's a theological statement about who God is and how His Kingdom operates.

God could have announced Jesus' birth to the religious elite in Jerusalem. He could have revealed it first to the scholars who studied the prophetic texts. He could have made sure the politically powerful were the first to know.

Instead, He chose shepherds.

This choice declares that God's message is for everyone—especially those whom society overlooks, undervalues, or ignores. It reminds us that humility, not status, positions us to receive divine revelation. It shows us that God delights in using the unlikely to accomplish the impossible.

Takeaway:

The humble shepherds remind us that God values the lowly and overlooked, choosing them to play pivotal roles in His divine plan. Their story encourages us to embrace humility and be ready to respond with faith and obedience whenever God calls.

Memory Verse (1 Corinthians 1:28):

"God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are"

Reflection:

As we reflect on the Christmas story this year, let's remember that the same God who chose shepherds still chooses the humble, the overlooked, and the willing. He still reveals Himself to those who, like those ancient shepherds, are simply watching and waiting, ready to respond when heaven breaks through.

The question isn't whether we're important enough, educated enough, or worthy enough to encounter God. The shepherds certainly weren't by worldly standards. The question is whether we're humble enough, attentive enough, and willing enough to recognize His voice when He speaks—and to respond with the same faith and obedience those shepherds demonstrated on that holy night so long ago.

Conclusion:

As we immerse ourselves in the Christmas story, let us not only marvel at the nativity scenes and celebrate with decorations but also consider the profound choice God made by announcing the birth of His Son to humble shepherds. This divine decision underscores a foundational principle of God's Kingdom: He elevates the humble and uses the unlikely to accomplish His great purposes. Just as the shepherds were chosen to witness and spread the news of Christ's birth, we too are called to be witnesses of His love and grace in the world. This Christmas, let's strive to be attentive, humble, and responsive to God's voice, ready to glorify and praise Him just as the shepherds did. May we open our hearts to the unexpected ways God might be calling us to participate in His story today.

By His Grace,
Pastor Daniel Bangura

Click here to access Bible Study Questions or click Notes below

Return to Notes

I'm a fifth grader at Lucy V. Barnsley Elementary School, where I go with my little sister, Reggina. I was raised in a Christian home by my parents, Edward and Sadiatu Saidu. My family and I joined Turning Point Church (TPC) about a year ago. TPC feels like having a second family.

At TPC, I'm part of Kids Zone, where I've made awesome new friends who I look forward to seeing at Sunday school. I'm also in the Dance and Banner Ministry, led by Lady Notoya Bangura. I'm super excited about our Christmas program, where I'll share my love for God through dance. I've learned that Christmas is about Jesus, the true light of the world, not about gifts and Santa.

Dancing in our church's Christmas play is like sharing a piece of my heart. I've also read the scriptures on Sundays before Pastor Daniel Bangura preaches. I love doing this because it makes people happy and helps them feel closer to God.

Going to church with my family has brought me closer to God and taught me how to pray. My family is my rock, teaching me to walk in faith. We have a "family choir," singing gospel songs while my dad plays the keyboard. These moments fill our home with joy and make me feel closer to God.

Outside church, I enjoy drawing, reading, and listening to music. I also look forward to watching movies after homework, completing house chores and hanging out with my cousin Samuela. We sometimes get in trouble for playing too much, especially when I'm on Roblox, my favorite game. I also love African food like potato leaves, jollof rice, and sweet sauce.

To anyone my age: you're never too young to let your light shine! Remember John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son." Her dance and scripture readings at Turning Point Church have helped her grow closer to God. Edwina's family helped her learn to pray and trust in God. Her life shows the joy Jesus brings through music and togetherness. Let's learn from Edwina and remember, no matter how old we are, we can let our light shine bright and make a difference through faith and love. This Christmas, we hope you share the light of Christ to everyone because He is the real reason for the season.

Pastor Daniel & Lady Notoya Bangura
Turning Point Church

Read More on TP Chronicles

Advent is a time to prepare our hearts for the wonderful celebration of Jesus' birth and the anticipation of His return. It's about hope, reflection, and reconnecting with the true meaning of Christmas.

Advent is all about "arrival," a season filled with hopeful anticipation. Just like how certain traditions light up a candle each week, marking their journey toward Christmas, Advent invites us to light up our lives with the promises and joy of Jesus. While December 25th might not be the exact day of Jesus' birth, it symbolizes the joy of His story and its impact on us today.

Our Immanuel:

God with Us!
Imagine God not as a distant figure but as someone sitting next to you, sharing your everyday moments. This is what "Immanuel" – God with us – truly means. Picture Jesus sitting with you during your morning coffee or in your challenging work meetings. He's there in the messy parts of life, guiding and comforting you.

Jesus: Bridging the Gap
Just like a translator helps bridge the language gap, Jesus bridges the divine and human worlds. He connects us to God, helping us understand His love and guidance. Through Jesus, the gap left by our sins is bridged, creating a path for us to reconnect with God.

The Bridge Rebuilt
Imagine a community separated by a broken bridge. Jesus is like the builder who repairs that bridge, reconnecting us with God. His life, death, and resurrection restore the bond that sin had broken.

A Fresh Start with Jesus

Advent is a reminder that with Jesus, every day offers a chance for a new beginning. Just as you might renovate and renew a house, Jesus invites us to renew our lives, letting go of old habits and embracing a life filled with grace and peace.

Becoming Peacemakers

Real peace starts by aligning our lives with God's will. Think of a stone dropped in water, creating ripples. Hebrews 4:12 reminds us that God's word is alive and active, having the ability to penetrate through our body, soul, and spirit.

First Thessalonians 5:23 encourages us to walk in wholeness or fulness of God. This walk is spiritual, going beyond all physical and emotional boarders. God’s incredible gift of grace is intended to completely change our walk with Him, transforming every part of lives—body, soul, and spirit—preparing us for the fulfillment of God's redemptive plan in the eternal kingdom.

Grace is fulfilled in our lives when we become transformed. Think of God's grace in our lives as a holistic transformation of renovating a house—body (structure), soul (interior design), spirit (foundation). Grace doesn't just paint over problems; it renovates from foundation to roof, making all things new.

How Grace Impacts Our Body

1. Body: Resurrected and Glorified
Transforming Our Existence: Philippians 3:20-21 tells us that our true home is heaven. Grace changes how we view the world, how we speak life into others, and how we show love through our actions. Our bodies are destined for resurrection and transformation. Grace transforms our physical senses:

1. Eye: Seeing through God's perspective (Grace changing our vision)
2. Nose: Symbolism of smell in sacrifices (Transforming actions into living sacrifices)
3. Mouth: Speaking words of grace and truth (Using speech for edification)
4. Ears: Hearing God's voice (Listening with hearts attuned by grace)
5. Touch: Acting compassionately (Hands as vehicles of grace and love)

How Grace Impacts Our Soul

2. Soul: Cleansed and Renewed
The soul—that complex intersection of imagination, conscience, memory, reason, and affection—finds its ultimate completion in the vision of Revelation 21:1-4. John writes of a new heaven and new earth where God will dwell with His people, wiping away every tear, abolishing death, mourning, crying, and pain. First Corinthians 2:14 reminds us that the natural person cannot understand spiritual things, but grace opens our understanding, cleansing our conscience and enabling godly living. Grace transforms the faculties of our soul through our:

1. Imagination: Sanctifying thoughts and creativity (Grace-filled vision)
2. Conscience: Purification through grace (Leading to godly living)
3. Memory: Past experiences as testimony (Grace and growth reflected)
4. Reason: Aligning logic with divine wisdom (Grace-informed decision-making)
5. Affection: Directing emotions toward love (Grace shaping relationships)

How Grace Impacts Our Spirit

3. Spirit: Strengthened and Empowered
Strengthening Our Spiritual Life: Romans 11:26-27 reassures us of God's faithfulness, bringing together Israel and the Church. Our spirits are strengthened by faith, hope, worship, reverence, and prayer in God's eternal plan, bringing unity in His redemptive story.

1. Faith: Strengthened by grace (Sustaining relationship with God)
2. Hope: Anchor of the soul (Looking toward eternal promises)
3. Reverence: Deepening respect for God (Awe through the Spirit)
4. Worship: Grace leading to true worship (In spirit and truth)
5. Prayer: Empowered communication with God (Fueled by grace)

Living in Grace: Our Daily Practice

Recognize that grace is the foundation of your relationship with God, freeing you from trying to earn favor. Romans 3:23-24 assures us that we are made right through faith, which encourages us to live with gratitude and love.

The Journey to Eternal Completion

Grace leads us toward a new heaven and earth, where God’s story comes to its fullest expression. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time" (1 Peter 1:3-5).

Reflection

Identify one specific area in body, soul, and spirit that needs grace's transforming work, and commit to cooperating with the Holy Spirit in that renovation process. Think about how grace is evident in our lives. How it strengthens our relationship with God and others, and ways we can learn to extend grace.

Conclusion

This season, remember that you are part of an eternal plan of grace, strengthening your bond with God and inviting you to share its transformative power. Reflect on 1 Thessalonians 5:23 as a divine assurance that grace is at work within you, preparing you for His coming. Let grace be visible in all you do, being an ambassador of hope and unity. Led by my wife, Lady Bangura, and me, we will explore biblical insights, key faith-based topics, practical applications for everyday life, event highlights, powerful testimonies, and much more from our community. We are excited to feature Monica Gordon as our November Spotlight candidate. This parish is also notable as the birthplace of famous Jamaicans like Olympic sprinters Usain Bolt and Veronica Campbell-Brown, and former Prime Minister Hugh Shearer. Raised by my loving grandmother, I learned early on the importance of giving and forgiving. Life wasn't always easy. I had to leave school because the walk was too long and money was tight. But I learned how to care for myself and my family by working in the farming community.

I am proud of my two children, Jackie and Danna, and I also cherish three grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Over ten years ago, Deaconess Valrie invited me to join Turning Point Church (TPC) during Pastor White’s leadership. Today, TPC is my spiritual home, and my faith has flourished under Pastor Daniel Bangura's guidance.

Reflecting on my life, I see how my grandmother's teachings shaped me. Her lessons on generosity and forgiveness guided me back to my faith, even when I lost my way as a young adult. Pastor Daniel has encouraged me to keep examining my faith, helping it grow deeper.

At TPC, I find joy in serving others. I love welcoming people as an usher and greeter. These roles have helped me connect with the community and grow spiritually. The love and support from our church family have been a big part of my life, offering help during both hard and happy times.

Outside of church, I enjoy talking with my neighbors. These conversations help me share my faith and build community ties. A dear friend once told me to "forget the past and press on," advice that has grounded me even when praying feels difficult.

To young people, I say: get involved in church. It gives you purpose and a strong sense of belonging. My life shows me that while life can be tough, keeping your faith strong is important. Remember, God is always with you, no matter what you're going through. I'm very grateful for the TPC family that has supported me through all my ups and downs.

Insight

Reflecting on her journey, Monica Gordon lives by the lessons of giving and forgiveness taught by her grandmother. Her story beautifully illustrates the grace that sustains us through life's ups and downs. Monica rediscovered her faith at Turning Point Church, where the love and teachings helped her grow spiritually. Her journey highlights the importance of faith communities in offering grace, support, and guidance. We are reminded that we are never alone when we embrace this shared grace. Like Monica, let's treasure lessons from our past, live purposefully today, and look forward with hope to the future God promises. Remember, God’s grace is ever-present, guiding you through every step and inspiring growth in gratitude and faith.

Pastor Daniel & Lady Notoya Bangura
Turning Point Church

Read More on TP Chronicles

The Fundamentals of Grace

In the age we live in, called the Church Age, we encounter the unyielding and transformative power of grace. Grace is not something you work for; it's a gift from God. This gift transforms lives and unites us all into a single spiritual family. As Ephesians 2:8-9 states, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast." Grace is like receiving a gift you didn't earn, can't pay for, and don't deserve. You can't add to it or improve it—you simply receive it with open hands.

God’s Grace in Action

What makes this era, the Church Age, so remarkable is that grace doesn't just save individuals—it unites them. The walls that once divided Jews and Gentiles, slave and free, have been demolished. Through Christ, we're now one body, one family, brought together not by our similarities but by His grace.

1. Grace in Our Era
   - Ephesians 3:1-6: We live in a time marked by grace, freeing us from old rules. This changes how we live our faith.

2. Unity Through Grace
   - Galatians 3:28: Grace eliminates barriers, making us one people under Christ.

3. The Journey of Grace
   - Romans 4:13-16: God's plan through grace is an ongoing story of love and unity.

Grace sets us right with God through faith, not our deeds. It places us in a big family, uniting us beyond cultural and ethnic lines. As 1 Corinthians 12:13 reminds us, we are all part of one Spirit, one family. Grace dramatically demolishes the walls between people. That's revolutionary!

Core Doctrines of Grace (TULIP)

The acronym, TULIP, explains key beliefs about grace:

1. Total Depravity
We were spiritually lost but grace saved us out of love, not because we earned it. (Ephesians 2:1-9)

2. Unconditional Election
We’re spiritually revived like a dead battery brought to life. God elected us before we decide to follow Him (Ephesians 1:4-6)

3. Limited Atonement
We are forgiven completely because Jesus took our place. Christ died specifically for the chosen (John 6:37-40)

4. Irresistible Grace
God's love is relentless, like a shepherd who never gives up on a lost sheep. God’s call changes even the most stubborn hearts (John 6:44)

5. Perseverance of the Saints
Once saved, we are always secure in grace. God's grace makes our salvation secure, like the safest security system.
(John 10:27-29)

Grace isn't about our efforts but about God's actions.

Living in Grace: Our New Reality

Living in grace means knowing we've all sinned, but through Jesus, God makes us right without us having to earn it (Romans 3:23-24). This understanding changes us, freeing us from trying to earn God's approval. Instead, we live with thankfulness, letting love guide what we do, not fear.

Takeaways

- Grace, a divine gift, transforms and unifies us spiritually.
- It liberates faith, breaking barriers and uniting us in Christ.
- TULIP teaches about God's grace through the doctrines of moral deprivation, election, atonement, and perseverance.
- Grace transcends cultural barriers, emphasizing unity through faith.
- Living in grace means knowing we've all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.
- It ensures our reconciliation with God, based on faith, not deeds.

Reflection

Reflecting on this age of grace, we see that our secure relationship with God lets us live confidently, extend grace to others, and hold onto hope until Christ returns. Although this time of grace will end with His coming, we are called to be ambassadors, showing the world how grace transforms lives.

- How is grace presently evident in your life?
- How does it strengthen your relationships with God and others?
- How can you live with grace and unity daily?

Grace is not just a belief; it's a daily reality that grounds our salvation, fuels our growth, and gives us hope. Live freely, connect with unity, and share this hope in every part of your life.

Conclusion

As you go through your week, remember you're in the age of grace, which strengthens your bond with God and others. Grace isn't just a biblical idea—it's what shapes our lives and secures our future. Hold on to the fact that you are loved and secure, not by your deeds but by God's grace. This is the Church Age of grace and you're living in it right now.

Return to Notes

In our Bible study last week, we discussed "New Testament and Future Dispensations" in which we learned about a journey through Scripture that reveals an impressive scope of God's redemptive plan. This helps us understand where we stand in His unfolding story.

Where Do We Stand in Human History?

God's structured plan for humanity across different time periods or dispensations, beginning with Adam's innocence in Eden, builds up to the eternal "Age of the Ages." Last week, we examined how each dispensation revealed different aspects of God's character and His relationship with humanity—from conscience and human government to the giving of the Law and our current age of grace. Most significantly, we saw how we are now living in the Dispensation of Grace, where salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ rather than obedience to the Law. In other words, where we stand in human history is called the church age or the dispensation of grace. Understanding these dispensations develops our view of God's comprehensive plan and helps us live faithfully today while maintaining hope for Christ's return and the establishment of His eternal kingdom.

What We Learned

I. The Present Age
- Post-Diluvian Dispensation (Human Government): After the Flood, people tried to govern themselves, highlighted by events like the Tower of Babel (Genesis 11:7-8).

- Patriarchal Dispensation (Promise): Abraham's call formed a great nation meant to bless everyone (Genesis 12:1-3).

- Legal Dispensation (Law): God gave Israel the Law to set them apart as His people (Exodus 19:5-6).

- Ecclesiastical Dispensation (Grace): Today, we're in the Church Age, where salvation comes through grace and faith, not by following the Law. Our mission is to spread the Gospel and make disciples (Ephesians 2:8-9, Matthew 28:18-20).

III. The Age of Ages
- Future Dispensations: Prophecies tell us about Christ's return and Israel's restoration, focusing on events like resurrection and judgment (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, Romans 11:25-27).

- Millennial Kingdom: A future 1,000-year reign of peace with Christ before a new creation begins (Revelation 20:1-6, Revelation 21:1-4).

- Renovation by Fire: Earth will be purified to prepare for the new heaven and earth (2 Peter 3:10-13).

- Perfect Age and Ages of the Ages (Eternal Kingdom): This marks an eternal time where God's plan is completely fulfilled, bringing joy to believers forever (1 Corinthians 15:24-28, Revelation 22:5).

Key Takeaways

- We are living in the church age, "The Dispensation of Grace," where salvation is a gift received through faith in Jesus Christ, not earned through our works or keeping the Law (Ephesians 2:8-9). This should transform how we approach God—with confidence in His grace rather than fear of our inadequacy.

- Our mission as the Church is clear: to spread the Gospel and make disciples of all nations, emphasizing grace through faith (Matthew 28:18-20). Every believer has a role in this Great Commission, living out and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.

- Christ's prophesied return is central to our hope and should shape how we live today. Whether we experience the Rapture, the Millennial Kingdom, or the new heaven and new earth, God's promises assure us that His plan will finish in perfect fellowship with Him for all eternity (Revelation 21:1-4).

- Understanding these dispensations helps us see God's amazing plan and encourages us to live with purpose and hope today.

Reflection

As we reflect on these truths, I encourage you to consider how understanding God's dispensational plan affects your daily walk with Him.

Prophets and Dispensational Insights

I'm excited to share Pastor Frederick’s insights from our recent Bible study as part of our October theme, "Discovering Christ Through Biblical Dispensations." In this Week 3 session, titled "Prophets and Dispensational Insights," he explored the important role of prophets in the Bible. Let's dive into Pastor Fred's teachings on this topic and see how these ancient messengers continue to reveal Christ to us today.

INSIGHTS FROM PASTOR FRED

Hello Saints!

Studying Scripture diligently is something God persistently calls us to do. As Christians, we know there are no shortcuts to maturity. For those who take the study of the Scriptures seriously, maturity may come slowly, but it can be assured. The study of Scripture is our only source of wisdom, understanding, and knowledge of Christ. Therefore, it should never be considered optional or occasional.

God employs His prophets to confront His people when they fail to take Him and His words seriously. Both major and minor prophets share God's revelations with His people in their writings. The prophetic books are found in the third and final section of the Old Testament. The Major Prophets consist of five books, from Isaiah to Daniel, named so due to the depth and length of their writings. The Minor Prophets encompass 12 books, from Hosea to Malachi.

What Defines a Prophet?
A prophet is someone who clearly hears from God and speaks on His behalf. The job of a prophet is to convey God's words to the people in a clear and steadfast manner. Their messages are often perceived as confrontational by the people and kings of Israel. Therefore, prophets were sometimes mocked, ridiculed, and even put to death. Here are three key points to remember about prophets:
1. Their primary goal is to speak God's message to the people, aiming to restore the relationship between God and His followers.
2. They continuously call for repentance to avoid impending judgment.
3. They offer hope by foretelling future times when God will restore His people.

Consequences of Ignoring Prophetic Warnings:
Israel went into captivity and exile in Assyria and Babylon because they refused to obey God’s words delivered through the prophets. Even in captivity, prophets like Daniel and Ezekiel were raised up to call the people to repentance. Almost all the prophets predicted the coming of Jesus Christ as the Messiah who would ultimately save Israel and the Gentile nations from their sins. According to the prophetic books, the Messiah would be betrayed, suffer, be crucified, and rise from the dead in His first coming as a means of atoning for the sins of the world (Isaiah 53:1-12).

Jesus Fulfilled the Prophetic Books in the New Testament:
- Matthew 1:22-23 (Isaiah 7:14)
- Matthew 2:1-6 (Micah 5:2)
- Matthew 2:13-15 (Hosea 11:1)
- Matthew 2:19-23; John 1:45-46
- Matthew 21:1-11 (Zechariah 9:9).

Jesus also referenced these prophecies when speaking to His "slow to understand" and discouraged disciples in Luke 24:25-27, 44-49.

Ultimately, the prophets all pointed to Jesus in their time, fulfilling their prophecies.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

- Dive into the Bible: Make it a habit to read Scripture, as it helps us grow in our faith.
- Appreciate the Prophets: See prophets as God’s messengers sent to steer us back on track with Him.
- Core Messages: Prophets have three main goals: fixing our relationship with God, encouraging us to change, and giving us hope for what's to come.
- Jesus and Prophecy: Jesus' life matched what prophets spoke about, highlighting His key role in God's grand plan.
- Apply Today: Engage with the Bible now to fight off spiritual laziness and embrace the change God promises through faith in Jesus.

Exploring the prophets' messages shows us how they all point to Jesus and the divine plan across different eras. These insights remind us to take the Bible seriously and live by its teachings. Prophets challenge us to rethink our norms and encourage us to turn back to God continually. Their fulfilled messages in Jesus offer hope, pushing us to let these truths change us and share His life-changing story with others today.

In His service,
Pastor Frederick Conteh

REFLECTION

Reflecting on Pastor Fred's notes, I found myself more deeply appreciating how the fulfillment of these prophecies in the New Testament, reinforcing God's divinely orchestrated plan centering on Christ.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Special thanks to Pastor Fred for allowing us to explore these teachings together, making Scripture more relevant to our lives today.

Pastor Fred, your teaching reminds us of the importance of appreciating the dual role of prophets: as historical messengers and as vital components in God's redemptive blueprint.

CALL TO ACTION

What stood out to you in this teaching? In our last Bible study, we discussed "Poetic and Historical Dispensations" in which we learned how the Bible used poetry and history to unveil God’s redemptive work.

The Bible is an amazing blend of history, poetry, and divine insight, penned by about 40 different authors over 1600 years. Despite the mix of contributors—from kings to fishermen—it consistently delivers a unified message about God's plan for salvation. Hebrews 1:1 highlights this diversity, noting how God has spoken "in various ways throughout history."

To truly appreciate the Bible, dive into its engaging stories and beautiful poetry. Understanding the intended audience—whether Jews, Gentiles, or the Church—is key to interpreting its messages. By viewing the Bible through "dispensations," or different phases of God’s interactions with humans, we gain understanding of how His plans have evolved over time.

Think of a dispensation as a section in a massive library where each part represents a different era. As you move through, the books change—from simple tales to complex stories—signifying how God gradually revealed His nature and plans across time, evolving His message as humanity grew in understanding.

History and Poetry in the Old Testament

In the Old Testament, the Law (Mosaic) Dispensation guides us through Israel's journey with key texts:

- Joshua, Judges, and Ruth: Highlight stories of triumphs and trials, offering lessons in leadership, faith, and choices.
- 1 & 2 Samuel, 1 & 2 Kings, and 1 & 2 Chronicles: Capture Israel's ups and downs.
- Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther: Focus on rebuilding faith and community after hardships.

The poetical books offer abundant wisdom:
- Job: Explores suffering and trust in God.
- Psalms: Present a variety of songs, from praise to lament.
- Proverbs: Gives practical life advice.
- Ecclesiastes: Contemplates life’s meaning.
- Song of Solomon: Celebrates love.

It is noteworthy that the Psalms are not just poetic expressions; they serve as a guide for prayer, helping us bring our genuine emotions to God, even with Psalms of Lament. Have you considered applying Psalms of Lament in your prayer?

What Are Psalms of Lament?

Psalms of lament stand out for their honesty. Unlike the polished prayers of thanks and praise we're often taught, these psalms allow us to express deep sadness and struggles directly to God. They remind us, as in Psalms 6, 22, 69, about expressing to God feelings of weakness, suffering, and being overwhelmed.

Many of us weren’t taught to pray with raw honesty. Lament psalms teach us that it’s okay to bring our pain to God and wrestle with our feelings. They provide words when we can't find our own and assure us that God listens and cares deeply. These psalms show us that God is never absent and is always attentive to our cries.

Lament psalms often include these key elements, though not all are present in every psalm:
- Address to God
- Complaint: An honest expression of suffering or injustice.
- Petition: Asking God to intervene, heal, or provide help.
- Statement of Trust: Affirming belief in God’s character despite circumstances.
- Praise or Vow: Many laments conclude with worship or a renewed commitment to God.

Lament psalms assure us that expressing our raw, honest emotions is welcome. They guide us in communicating our deepest feelings while reaffirming that God is with us, listening and responding, even when nothing seems to change. Through these psalms, we find a profound connection with God, knowing He is present in our struggles and triumphs.

Poetic and Historic Expressions in the New Testament

Although the New Testament (Grace) Dispensation lacks specific poetry books, it contains poetic language. In its historic expressions, we encounter Jesus, the Savior through the Gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—who offer different perspectives on His life, teachings, miracles, death, and resurrection.

- Gospels Overview:
  - Offer unique perspectives:
    - Matthew: Jesus as the Messiah.
    - Mark: Jesus as the Servant.
    - Luke: Jesus as the Son of Man.
    - John: Jesus’s Divinity.

The Acts of the Apostles also showcases the history and rapid growth of the early church, spreading the Gospel globally. While the New Testament doesn’t have separate poetry books, it’s full of wisdom from letters by apostles like Paul and Peter. For example, Philippians 2:6-11, referred to as the "Christ hymn", beautifully discusses Jesus's humility and greatness.

- Acts of the Apostles Overview:
  - Chronicles the early church’s growth.
    - Missionary work (Acts 1:8).
    - Community building.
    - Role of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4).
    - Shows the shift from a Jewish faith to a global Christian movement.

These elements create a rich web of history, theology, and poetic expressions, weaving together a powerful narrative of faith that has inspired believers throughout the ages.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

- History and poetry in Scripture teach about God's enduring love and plans for humanity.
- Understanding different biblical periods helps us grasp His teachings and promises.
- Lament Psalms allow us to express all emotions to God and teach honesty in prayer.
- Historical and poetic expressions in the Old and New Testaments help us affirm our relationship with God, knowing He's with us in both trials and triumphs.

REFLECTION

The Bible invites you to connect with its stories, finding your own life mirrored in its pages. Through its stories and poetry, it provides hope, guidance, and a chance for transformation. Feeling down or going through a tough time? Consider enriching your prayers with Psalms of Lament, such as Psalms 6, 10, 13, 22, 38, 42, 130, by:

- Reading them aloud to voice your feelings.
- Rewriting them in your own words.
- Including your personal situations to connect more deeply.
- Using them in group prayers during collective challenges.

The goal is to bring your whole heart to God and deepen your understanding of His love for you.

Blessings,
Pastor Daniel Bangura

Return to Notes

During this time, I have served in various roles and am currently the Chair of the Finance Committee. I also contribute to the TPC Council and Leadership Team and act as an advisor to the Media and Technology Ministry.

My journey into ministry was deeply influenced by my upbringing. My father, Sammy Gweh, served as a Deacon, and my mother, Martha Gweh, was a women’s ministry leader. As a Deacon’s kid, I often found myself involved in ministry work while my peers enjoyed typical weekend activities. These experiences, though unclear at the time, laid the foundation for my path today.

Like many, I drifted from the church during my young adult years, focusing on soccer, work, and socializing. Yet, the seeds my parents planted endured. Marriage and family brought clarity to their teachings about commitment, respect, and selflessness. Above all, they introduced me to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

I started attending TPC, formerly Wheaton Woods Baptist Church, thanks to an invitation from my mother-in-law. My attendance became more consistent during Pastor O’Neal Walker’s leadership. Despite it being an hour’s drive, the warmth and community make the journey worthwhile. The Gospel shared here echoes the truths my parents imparted—the centrality of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection in our faith.

In my professional life, I’m an IT specialist focusing on the public sector, holding a Master’s degree in Information Technology with a specialization in Software Engineering. I am passionate about soccer, supporting Arsenal in the EPL, and played at the NCAA level. In my downtime, I enjoy games like Scrabble, cards, and dominoes, although I dislike slow computers. My favorite scripture is Psalm 23, and I live by the belief that “to whom much is given, much is required.” I feel blessed and trust that God has great things in store for my family and me. To my TPC family: Remember that God is in control, regardless of circumstances. He has engraved your name on His palm and will never forget you.

Insight

Reflecting on his spiritual journey, Sam Gweh embraces lessons of commitment, service, and faith learned from his parents. These teachings remind us all to seek God’s guidance in every aspect of our lives. The importance of living purposefully and serving others is reinforced by the belief that to whom much is given, much is required. As we anticipate the glorious return of Christ, let us focus on aligning our lives with God's will, trusting that His eternal promise ensures each person is cherished and never forgotten. Like Sam, reflect on how far God has brought you, not forgetting where He places you now, while looking forward to the fulfillment of His plans at the return of Christ.

Pastor Daniel & Lady Notoya Bangura
Turning Point Church

Read More on TP Chronicles

Introduction to Biblical Dispensations

Curious about how the grand story of the Bible unfolds over time? In our recent Bible Study, we kicked off our exploration of Biblical Dispensations. This week is an introduction to dispensationalism, stemming from the overall theme, "Discovering Christ Through Biblical Dispensations." This journey helps us understand God's relationship with humanity through different periods, each unveiling His love and redemptive work, and how it all points to Jesus Christ.

In our last Bible Study session, we explored the concept of Biblical Dispensations—a journey that will help you understand the Bible better and feel closer to Jesus Christ.

This month’s studies will help us unravel how understanding different periods in the Bible can illuminate, not only Christ’s role but also, God’s promises, and affirm the importance of salvation by faith alone. The following Bible Study titles build upon each other to support the theme as follows:

Week 1: Introduction to Biblical Dispensations
Week 2: Historical & Poetical Books Through Dispensations
Week 3: Prophets & Dispensational Insights
Week 4: New Testament and Future Dispensations

In week-1, the emphasis is about the significance of "rightly dividing the word of truth" and how this approach can deepen our understanding of God's plan throughout history.
The concept of rightly dividing the word of truth challenges us to approach Bible study in practical ways that help us improve our biblical interpretation skills.

What Are Dispensations?

Dispensations are specific periods in the Bible where God interacted with people in distinct ways, as guided by 2 Timothy 2:15: "rightly dividing the word of truth." Understanding these times is not just about learning facts; it’s about discovering Christ in every part of Scripture. In our study, we used these insights to explore the Pentateuch, the first five books of the Bible, laying the foundation for God’s story with humanity—from creation and the fall to promises given to Abraham.

Key Theme Explored:

- Rightly Dividing the Word: Emphasizing the need for careful interpretation of Scripture to reveal God’s intended message.

Practical Application:

1. Exposition and Exegesis: Interpreting and teaching scripture clearly, considering grammatical and historical contexts to uncover deeper meanings.

2. Grammatical Analysis: Exploring original languages for deeper insight or meaning.

3. Literal Interpretation: Understanding text literally unless figurative or simply taking the text at face value.

4. Historical Context: Considering cultural and political settings for clarity and understanding.

5. Avoiding Anachronisms: Not imposing modern views on ancient texts or understanding texts without imposing modern interpretations on ancient contexts.

6. Scriptural Harmony: Cross-referencing to ensure consistency in teachings for harmony and understanding or let Scripture interpret itself.

7. Practical Application: Applying teachings to transform daily life.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

- Dispensationalism helps us organize Biblical history into distinct periods, each revealing a unique aspect of God's interaction with humanity.

- Rightly Dividing the Word: The need for us to carefully interpret and apply Scripture to reveal God’s intended message.

- The Pentateuch’s Role: Understanding how the first five books of the Bible, also known as Torah, are crucial in their introduction of key themes like creation, the fall, and God's covenant promises. They Pentateuch is foundational for understanding these dispensations and God's unfolding plan.

- Proper Biblical interpretation, including exegesis and considering historical context, is vital for accurately understanding God's message to us.

- Salvation by Faith: Salvation is given through the grace of God, by faith in Christ alone.

- Christ-Centered Focus: The Bible is Christ-centered, highlighting Him as the central figure in God's promises and redemptive plan.

REFLECTION

Understanding the study of dispensations reassures us of God’s consistent character—His love and justice are unchanging. Christ remains central across all scriptures, emphasizing the critical role of faith. In this post, we'll explore what the New Covenant is, its connection to Jesus, and its meaning for believers today.

1. A New Relationship with God

The New Covenant signifies a new type of relationship between God and humanity, promised through the prophets Jeremiah (31:31-34) and Ezekiel (36:26-27). This covenant ensures that God's law is written on our hearts, allowing for a personal connection with Him through the Holy Spirit.

2. Jesus and the New Covenant

Scriptures like Luke 22:20 and Hebrews 9:15 highlight Jesus as the mediator of the New Covenant. His sacrifice established this covenant, fulfilling prophecies and making way for a new kind of relationship where forgiveness and grace replace the old laws and sacrifices.

3. Fulfillment in the New Testament

The New Testament affirms Jesus as the foundation of the New Covenant. Passages such as Matthew 26:27-28 and 2 Corinthians 3:6 demonstrate how His life, death, and resurrection offer believers a direct relationship with God, without the need for priests or continual sacrifices.

4. Fulfillment in the Lives of Believers

The New Covenant promises eternal life and transformation for those who follow Jesus. Romans 8:1-4 and Galatians 3:13-14 speak about the freedom and spiritual renewal available through faith, highlighting the ongoing impact of Christ's covenant in our daily lives.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

- Personal Connection: The New Covenant allows for an individual relationship with God, with His laws written on our hearts.

- Established Through Christ: This promise is made possible through Jesus' sacrifice, marking a shift from ritualistic law to gracious living.

- Continual Relevance: The New Covenant remains ever relevant, applying to all believers regardless of background.

- Inclusive Promise: It extends beyond Israel, embracing all people willing to accept Jesus.

- Unchanging Assurance: The New Covenant stands firm, offering everlasting security in God’s promises.

REFLECTION

The New Covenant is a profound part of the Bible, illustrating how God’s promises through Jesus bring freedom and transformation. In this post, we'll look at what the Davidic Covenant is all about, how it relates to Jesus, and what it means for the future.

1. A Family of Kings

The Davidic Covenant is about God promising King David that his family would be the line of kings. This promise, found in 2 Samuel 7:7-17 and Psalm 89:1-4, 20-37, ensures that David's descendants will always be the royal family of Israel.

2. Jesus and the Davidic Covenant

The books of Isaiah 7:13-14 and 9:6-7 speak of a child who will be a great leader, a prophecy Christians believe is about Jesus. This shows how Jesus is linked to King David, fulfilling the promise of the Davidic Covenant.
3. Fulfillment in the New Testament

In the New Testament, verses like Luke 1:30-35, 68-72, Matthew 9:27, and Luke 18:35-39 affirm Jesus as the heir to David's throne, highlighting His role as the eternal King promised in the Davidic Covenant.

4. Fulfillment in the Future Millennial Kingdom

The Davidic Covenant also has a future promise. Revelation 20:1-6, along with writings from prophets like Jeremiah (30:9), Ezekiel (34:23-24), and Hosea (3:1-5), speaks about a future time when a descendant of David will reign, bringing peace and justice.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

- Literal Meaning: The words and promises in the covenant should be understood as they are stated, not in a symbolic way.

- Specific to Israel: This promise was made especially for the nation of Israel, setting it apart from other commitments in the Bible.

- Everlasting Promise: This covenant is meant to last forever, always remaining relevant.

- Confirmed with an Oath: Psalm 132:1-18 highlights that God made this promise with a serious vow.

- Unbreakable: According to Psalm 89:34-36, God assures that this covenant will not be broken.

REFLECTION

The Davidic Covenant is a key element of the Bible, showing how God's promises to David have lasting importance. It connects Israel's history, the coming of Jesus, and future events in a powerful way.

I hope this explanation clarifies the Davidic Covenant for you. I've been a part of TPC for over 20 years, and during that time, my faith journey has evolved in many ways. I participated in the youth ministry and was a member of a dance group called Alpha Omega, under the leadership of Dr. Pastor Neal Walker. Those early experiences were essential in strengthening my connection to the church and allowed me to form lasting friendships with others in my age group.

In addition to my church involvement, I graduated from Salisbury University with a master's degree in social work. This education has equipped me with tools to support our youth and community effectively, reinforcing the values of empathy and service that are central to my faith.

Like many, my faith story isn't unique, but it is deeply personal. As I grew older, I began to explore my faith through my own perspective, discovering what spirituality meant to me as an individual. Although I wasn't as actively involved in church when I went off to college, I always returned to visit, carrying the memories of those formative years.

Over the past two years, I've experienced a significant shift in my life that pulled me back to church. Initially, I resisted that pull as life became busy, and I wasn't sure how to reconnect. However, in the last few months, something within me has shifted profoundly. I realized that I wanted to grow spiritually and serve in a deeper way, so I took the initiative to answer that call.

Life has come full circle for me, as I currently joyfully participate in the Dance and Banners Ministry alongside my two daughters. This has become a meaningful way for us to bond and express our faith together. Additionally, I serve in other ministries, including Fellowship and Ushering, further deepening my involvement and commitment to the church community.

Outside of church, my life revolves around my two daughters, Aubree (11) and Maira (3). We spend our weekends engaging in various activities together, and I am a gymnastics mom, which fills my weekdays and weekends with practices and training sessions. I enjoy making chocolate-dipped desserts, spending quality time with my family, and reading novels in my free time. I am also a proud native of Jamaica, which adds a rich cultural perspective to my life experiences.

Turning Point Church has always held a special place in my heart for my spiritual growth and sense of community. Whether through fellowship or service, I have always found a home here. Turning Point has a unique way of making everyone feel like part of a family, offering a sense of belonging and care that is deeply intimate. It's a place where you can truly feel seen, heard, and welcomed with open arms.

<div
