Spotlight on Monica Gordon

Welcome to TP Concept!

On September 1, 2025, we proudly launched TP Concept, a blog dedicated to enriching spiritual growth and fostering community engagement at Turning Point Church. Led by my wife, Lady Bangura, and me, we will explore biblical insights, key faith-based topics, practical applications for everyday life, event highlights, powerful testimonies, and much more from our community. We are excited to feature Monica Gordon as our November Spotlight candidate. Here's his inspiring story.
My name is Monica Gordon, and I was born in Trelawny, Jamaica, a place celebrated for its rich history and close-knit community. This parish is also notable as the birthplace of famous Jamaicans like Olympic sprinters Usain Bolt and Veronica Campbell-Brown, and former Prime Minister Hugh Shearer. Raised by my loving grandmother, I learned early on the importance of giving and forgiving. Life wasn't always easy. I had to leave school because the walk was too long and money was tight. But I learned how to care for myself and my family by working in the farming community.

I am proud of my two children, Jackie and Danna, and I also cherish three grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Over ten years ago, Deaconess Valrie invited me to join Turning Point Church (TPC) during Pastor White’s leadership. Today, TPC is my spiritual home, and my faith has flourished under Pastor Daniel Bangura's guidance.

Reflecting on my life, I see how my grandmother's teachings shaped me. Her lessons on generosity and forgiveness guided me back to my faith, even when I lost my way as a young adult. Pastor Daniel has encouraged me to keep examining my faith, helping it grow deeper.

At TPC, I find joy in serving others. I love welcoming people as an usher and greeter. These roles have helped me connect with the community and grow spiritually. The love and support from our church family have been a big part of my life, offering help during both hard and happy times.

Outside of church, I enjoy talking with my neighbors. These conversations help me share my faith and build community ties. A dear friend once told me to "forget the past and press on," advice that has grounded me even when praying feels difficult.

To young people, I say: get involved in church. It gives you purpose and a strong sense of belonging. My life shows me that while life can be tough, keeping your faith strong is important. Remember, God is always with you, no matter what you're going through. I'm very grateful for the TPC family that has supported me through all my ups and downs.
