Understanding Divine Election and Calling
A Reflection on Election and Calling
In a world that's a never-ending rat race of "likes" and job titles, our latest Bible study brought us back to a foundational truth: You were chosen long before your first social media profile (or your first mistake) ever existed. Here are the big takeaways from last week's Bible study lesson:
1. Chosen or Driven
We looked at Ephesians 1:4-6 and realized our worth isn't a performance review. Society wants us to earn our spot, but God gave us our spot before the world even began.
2. An Identity That Doesn't Break
Life gets messy, but Jeremiah 1:5 reminds us our purpose is anchored in eternal values. When things go sideways, we aren't defined by the chaos; we're defined by Christ.
3. The Ultimate Security Blanket
We talked about the "seal" of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13-14). Once you're His, you're His. Period. No matter where you came from or what you used to believe, grace is like a bridge awaiting to bring you over to God. This is echoed in 2 Peter 3:9, which tells us, "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." He is patiently waiting for all His elect to be saved! This is no reason to think all will be saved or God's grace will forever wait for the unrepentant sinner. We're living in the Last Days. As 2 Thessalonians 2:7 implies the Holy Spirit in us—and by extension, the church—is actually holding back the lawless one who is the antichrist. Talk about a time to make our calling and election sure!
4. Walking the Talk
Ephesians 2:10 says God has pre-planned "good works" for us. It's not about adding more to your to-do list; it's about looking for the roles God already set up for you. Maybe it's a kind word to a barista or finally volunteering for that cause on your heart.
Memory Verse for the Week
"For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight." — Ephesians 1:4
The Bottom Line:
Your security isn't in cultural validation; it's in Divine Election. You aren't just a face in the crowd—you're chosen, sealed, and sent.
